Dr. James Douglas Shillito
James Douglas Shillito, 84, of Glen Carbon Illinois born July 02, 1932 in Spooner, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Memorial Hospital.
Jim started his working career in the military and retired from the Air Force with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1992. He then studied at Midwest Bible Institute and was accepted as a student pastor in Millsburg, Illinois before he graduated in 1960. Jim went on to earn many degrees in Education. He received his Bachelors of Arts in Education in 1964 from McKendree College, his Masters of Education in 1970 from University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, and his Doctorate of Education from St. Louis University in 1984. Jim went on to teach for Collinsville Unit 10 School District for over 38 years. During which time he assumed many roles within the district including Headmaster and Principal. He received many awards during his tenure which included Teacher of the Year from Collinsville Unit 10 and the Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Recognition in honor of his outstanding contributions to the field of Education. He also coached basketball for the school district. Jim retired from teaching in 1998. He also retired from JC Penneys after many years of service.
Jim enjoyed reading and collecting coins, both antique and commemorative, and collecting cans for recycling purposes. He loved to play Yahtzee with anyone who would take the time to sit and play. Jim and wife Helen loved to travel throughout their 60 years of marriage. They also enjoyed sitting together with a bowl popcorn and watching old time movies, Christian movies, Wheel of Fortune and Matlock.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, nee Holst, Shilitto, whom he married on June 23, 1956; his parents Grayden and Anah, nee Crocker, Shellito; two brothers, Bill and Neil Shillito; and two sisters, Marion (Infant) and Rae Jean Shellito.
He is survived by brothers, Dean Shillito of St. Louis, MO; Kenny (Barbara) Shillito of Sunnyvale, CA; Don Shellito of Coeur d’Alene, ID; daughters, Esther (Leon) Mokriakow of Glen Carbon, Ill; Rebecca Shillito Glen Carbon, Ill; Seven grandchildren, Dennis and Nikolai Mokriakow, Sherry Shanks, Scott Mokriakow, Krystal Henderson, Joshua Dodson, Derrick Dodson, and two adopted granddaughters Jade Harper and Aanya Sharpe. Great grandchildren Matthew and Tyler Mokriakow, and many step great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan 5, 2017, at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 723 St. Louis road, Collinsville, Ill. with Pastor Greg Pratt officiating. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill.
