Violet Frances Fletcher

Violet Frances Fletcher, 99, formerly of Collinsville, IL., passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, in Charleston, SC. She was born July 29, 1918 in Johnston City, IL., the daughter of Guy and Mary, nee Kousick, Foli. She attended St. Paul Elementary School and graduated from Johnston City High School. After graduation Violet was employed at Park-Davis Pharmacy (Pfizer) in Detroit, MI.

Violet married her high school sweetheart, Vergil Fletcher, on June 9, 1938, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Johnston City. It was a marriage that celebrated 71 years until Vergil’s death in 2009. They were parents of 6 children, Marietta (Marion) Thompson of Cedar Falls, IA., Marlene (Joseph) Rotter of Charleston, SC., Marci Fletcher of Mt. Pleasant SC., Marian (Bruce) Evans of Charleston, SC., Michael (Margie) Fletcher of Memphis, TN. and Marc (Joan) Fletcher of Naples, FL.

Violet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was very active in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella, the Quilting Group and the Hospitality Committee. She was active in Home Extension, The Democratic Club, Collinsville Historical Museum and Collinsville Unit 10 School Board. She was a loyal Kahok, who was often seen, and heard, wearing purple.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Coach Vergil Fletcher, her parents and other brother, M.O. “Lindo” Foli.

Violet is survived by her 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marian Mauzy of Marion, IL. and Kay Bozarth of Murphysboro, IL.; brother-in-law Jack Fletcher of Marion, IL., and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in honor of Violet Fletcher to the Collinsville Historical Museum or Collinsville Education Scholarship Foundation and can be received at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church prior to the service or at Herr Funeral Home, Collinsville, IL. Condolences to the family can be expressed through this online guestbook.

Visitation: Friends can visit with the family 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Collinsville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father John Beveridge officiating. A private family committal service will follow the Mass.
